Sabasta is predominantly a research organization. The research programs of Sabasta mainly endeavour to develop hybrids/varieties with higher and stable yields; pest, disease and drought resistance; and superior quality traits with at least 20-40% increase in productivity over the existing lines. We also undertake agronomic trials aimed at developing suitable package of practices for the hybrids/varieties developed by us.

Sabasta has formulated its breeding programs to develop superior hybrids/varieties to suit LOCAL needs with well set GLOBAL standards. Sabasta's priority is for Collection, Classification and Utilization of plant genetic resources from which better performing lines could be selected. We are proud to announce that the germplasm collection with us is one of the richest in the industry. Currently, Sabasta is working on field crops like Paddy, Maize, Sunflower, Bajra etc. and vegetables like Tomato, Chillies, Brinjal, Okra, Melons, Gourds etc.

Our core R&D objectives of crop improvement schemes are:
» Desirable plant type for high productivity.
» Higher yields and superior quality.
» Wider adaptability.
» High level of pest resistance.
» Multiple disease resistance.

Maintenance Breeding and Pure Seed Multiplication
The expected returns from the efforts and resources spent on developing a new hybrid would be achieved only when the quality seeds are available to farmers in true-to-type form. Maintenance breeding is a critical step between crop improvement schemes and seed production programs. We manage the maintenance breeding and parental seed multiplication through four stages of seed multiplication i.e., nucleus seed (paired crosses), breeder's seed, foundation seed, and labeled seed.

Research Collaborations
Sabasta established strong research collaborations (Private-Public partnership initiatives) with a number of International and National institutes as well as State agriculture Universities (SAU) for exchange of plant genetic resources and technical know-how. We feel that such associations would help the company to meet the challenging demands in seed sector for the future.
